The story itself still resembles the story of Rapunzel who has long been known to the public at large . The difference, is not there a prince in this story that came to save the princess . There is only a handsome villain named Flynn Ryder ( Zachary Levi ) who inadvertently get into a tower where Rapunzel ( Mandy Moore ) has lived all his life . Rapunzel 's own stay in the tower since the baby after he was kidnapped by Mother Gothel ( Donna Murphy ) from her parents who are the king and queen of a kingdom . Grothel own mother kidnaps Rapunzel to harness the power of Rapunzel's magical hair and keeping it youthful. Although at first did not believe Flynn , Rapunzel finally succeeded in forcing Flynn to take her out of the tower and go see the royal festival king and queen held to commemorate the loss of their only daughter . Of course , Rapunzel is very happy when the first time he managed to set foot outside of the tower . However , the fun turns into an adventure when Flynn and Rapunzel encounter many people who intend to capture Flynn . This is compounded by the efforts of Mother Gothel to get Rapunzel back after finding out that she ran out of the tower where he had been staying .
